The Internet and Your Wedding

When you and your fiancé have a date set, create a web site for your wedding. You can use the web site to accept your RSVP’s, give your guests directions; hotel options; a list of cultural things going on in the area of your wedding; links to local theatres; transit information; airport locations; supermarkets, movies, museums; a list of stores you’re registered at; photos of your bridal shower, the wedding, your honeymoon; and in the future, children. I don’t recommend you inviting your guests by e-mail. I still prefer the old fashioned way of a formal (or semi-formal) invitation sent by post. Once you have your final invitation list put together you can send out a “save the date” postcard. And on the postcard you can note your web site address. The Internet is a wonderful way to communicate with friends and family all around the globe. But there is still nothing like a personal hand written note or phone call. Also, you can’t assume that your older friends and relatives will use the web, even if they have web access. So if you don’t receive a response from an older friend or relative – or in fact, from anyone you’ve invited – don’t assume they have responded using the Internet. A phone call might be needed.
